Colorful art festival in Seremban, Malaysia
“In honor of the Twin Holy Birthdays, the Bahá’í community of Seremban, Malaysia, organized an art festival at the Seremban Bahá’í Center. About 110 participants gathered, including families and representatives of local religious organizations. The festival included a workshop facilitated by an artist who inspired the participants to create paintings on the theme Unity in Diversity. It was a joyous celebration which fostered love and unity among the participants, many of whom engaged in conversations about the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh and community building activities. “


Russia

Poems from Russia commemorate the bicentenary
A book of poems, titled Clouds, is being published in St. Petersburg, Russia, to honor the bicentenary and convey the impact of the Báb’s life and teachings. The book includes the poetry of Ṭáhirih, the immortal heroine of the Bábí Faith, translated into Russian.


Bolivia

Vibrant community expresses its joy
Communities across Bolivia have been eagerly anticipating the coming bicentenary through vibrant performances and gatherings, study of Bahá’í writings, and reflection on the historic events surrounding the Báb’s mission two centuries ago.


Kiribati

Traveling troupe raises awareness of bicentenary through dance
To increase awareness of the bicentenary, a dance troupe in South Tarawa, Kiribati, carried out a series of outdoor performances along the island’s main road, drawing joyful audiences at each stop. Through spoken word, music, and dance, the troupe told the story of the life of the Báb and His mission.

In the town of Tunduma, Tanzania, children, youth, and adults celebrated the bicentenary with songs and performances.

A presentation about the Báb, music by a guitar ensemble, and the aroma of a traditional earth oven called an umu filled the air of this bicentenary celebration organized for work colleagues, neighbors, and friends in Wellington, New Zealand.


Tonga

School in Tonga celebrates the bicentenary
Students and teachers at the Bahá’í-inspired Ocean of Light school in Nukuʻalofa, Tonga, celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of the Báb. Senior students prepare a colorful banner while all enjoy a program that includes prayer, music, dance, and presentations about the historic anniversary.


Macedonia

Children explore spiritual qualities through art
Families in Macedonia are drawing on the arts, especially during the bicentenary of the birth of the Báb, to explore various spiritual qualities. Children, youth, and parents have written such qualities as justice, kindness, love, and unity on banners, stones, and umbrellas, as well as on kites produced by a local kite maker for the bicentenary. The artwork is exhibited in the garden of a local youth center, where families lit hand-made lanterns to illuminate the area for an interreligious devotional.


Central Africa Republic

Celebrations held by families and groups in the Central African Republic
The commemoration of the bicentenary of the birth of the Báb is gaining momentum in the Central African Republic as several families and groups in Bangui and Bimbo convened joyful gatherings. In warm, intimate settings, the gatherings brought together scores of their friends and acquaintances to honor the life of the Báb. The events included artistic performances that illustrate the significance of the Báb’s revelation.


Tajikistan

Children, youth, and adults are getting ready for the bicentenary celebrations in Tajikistan
For months, children, youth, and adults across Tajikistan have been making efforts to advance their studies aimed at building capacity for service. In light of these gatherings, preparations for the bicentenary celebrations have been underway in different cities, villages, and neighborhoods. Many communities have been screening the film Dawn of the Light leading up to the festivities. Diverse gatherings to celebrate the bicentenary are now being held.

In the seaside city of Limbe, Cameroon, children, youth, and adults rehearsed their artistic presentations for the bicentenary. Attendees felt the creative energy of a vibrant step dance for peace and joyful music and singing.

India

Dubbing the movie “A Widening Embrace”
As part of preparations for the bicentenary, the Bahá’í community of Ahwa, India, dubbed a section of the film “A Widening Embrace” into the Dingi language. The film helped to introduce neighbors to community building activities and share with them the teachings of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh.


Bahrain

Calligraphy inspired by the bicentenary
Artists from Bahrain have created calligraphy, one of which represents a poem written about the Báb by a renowned religious teacher, Siyyid Kázim.


Prayer of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in Tongan

Residents of different communities across New Zealand’s North Island chanted a well-known prayer of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in Tongan. The prayer, in English, says, “O God, guide me, protect me, make of me a shining lamp and a brilliant star. Thou art the Mighty and the Powerful.” This devotional gathering was part of a larger meeting where the group prepared for the bicentenary by reflecting on the progress of the dynamic educational process taking place in their communities, wherein people of all ages engage in systematic study and action aimed at contributing to the progress of their neighborhoods.

Papua New Guinea

Classroom built for children’s classes
In a neighborhood in Lae, Papua New Guinea, a classroom was built to respond to increasing interest in children and youth to participate in educational activities. With several dozen young people registered for the classes, the community needed a suitable space for this large group and rallied especially in preparation for the bicentenary to provide this space to prevent rain from cancelling the classes.


Ireland

Garden of Contemplation continues to offer space for reflection
To mark the bicentenary of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh in 2017, the Bahá’í community of County Kerry, Ireland, created a “Garden of Contemplation” in a local park. This space continues to offer a place of quiet contemplation for the local community. Among the trees and flowers, visitors can read and reflect on passages from different religions, poets and philosophers that have been installed throughout the garden.


United States

Art installation uses light to demonstrate oneness
Entitled “750,” this international collaborative photographic project involves 18 photographers from five countries and was done in honor of the bicentenary year. Seven hundred fifty portraits of hands, each holding a candle, creatively recall the teachings, the sacrifices, and the martyrdom of the Báb. The installation has been shown at two universities, and will be on exhibit at the Bahá’í House of Worship Welcome Center in Wilmette, United States, from 28 October to 30 November.
